ResCare HomeCare news — 01/01/2008

What will your life be like in 2008?

There’s nothing like starting a new year. Crossing off the last day of the last month on the old calendar, and opening a fresh one to find twelve new months ahead, is a natural invitation to think of how we’ve spent the last year and what we’ll do with the time before us. Bombarded by lists of the “10 best” or “10 worst” in sundry categories, we may think back on our own milestones – the high and low points of the year gone by – and look ahead to new personal challenges and possibilities.

As for New Year’s resolutions, love them or hate them, they illustrate a fundamental need to take control of our lives. And if some of them fail to yield optimal results, well, many lead to positive changes that would never have come about without deliberate effort.

Maybe the word “resolution” discourages some of us from committing to a better plan. Implying that the ability to meet goals correlates with strength of character, the “r” word can be intimidating. But since the urge to make resolutions springs from a very positive desire for progress and improvement, how about stressing the liberating effects of envisioning, planning for, and getting what we want, rather than dwelling on the superhero, grit-your-teeth determination that we think it may take to get there?

Envisioning the difficulties ahead of us in the coming year – rather than where we’d like to go – may discourage us before we take the first positive step. The fact is that given the right tools, making life-changing improvements doesn’t have to be difficult. Knowledge and support can help. Regardless of whether the goal is losing weight, finding the wherewithal to quit smoking, or finally completing that college degree, it helps to connect with people who have expertise and experience. Why go it alone?

At ResCare HomeCare, our knowledge and experience in the home care field is unparalleled. So if one of your goals this year is to line up the support and services you will need to continue to live in your home through your later years – or to find services for a loved one who needs them – ResCare HomeCare is a great place to start your search. Similarly, if you are anticipating the need for surgery in the coming months, or if you become ill or injured, you should know that we also provide support and care in the hospital as well as post-hospitalization services. Such services can help you maintain a better quality of life. We also help people living with chronic disabilities, provide new baby care and support, and offer respite services for family members who need a break from care-giving responsibilities. Staff members are trained to support and care for those with Alzheimer’s and can provide services to people living in assisted living facilities.

Our specific services include personal care and support, homemaking, transportation or accompaniment, overnight care, skilled nursing, and more. If we don’t provide the help you’re looking for, we will do our best to refer you to an organization that does. If payment is an issue, we can help you identify funding sources and develop a solution that meets your needs. And if you are trying to juggle services from various medical professionals and service providers, our geriatric care managers can help you navigate bureaucracy, coordinate services, and ensure that you receive the best care.

At ResCare HomeCare, we like to say we measure our success by the success of the people we serve. We’ll be here to support you throughout 2008, providing services that can help you and your loved ones enjoy a happier and healthier new year.
